MCPD - Microsoft Certified Professional Developer

Description

The MCPD is an umbrella certification that contains 3 sub-certifications. This is to allow the owner to demonstrates that they are an expert in one of the following categories:

  1. Professional Developer: Web Developer;
  2. Professional Developer: Windows Developer;
  3. Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer.
This certification is maintained by the Microsoft Corporation

The MCPD certification is to demonstrate that the owner is an expert in a specific area. The following is a breakdown of each area:

  1. Professional Developer: Web Developer:

  2. This certification demonstrates that the owner has the skills and abilities needed to build ASP.NET 2.0 web applications.

  3. Professional Developer: Windows Developer

  4. This certification demonstrates that the owner has the skills and abilities to build applications on Windows operating systems using the .NET Framework 2.0

  5. Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer

  6. This certification demonstrates that the owner has the ability to build solutions that include both Application and Web Application systems.

Certification Criteria

Web Developer:
Individuals wanting to be certified as a Professional Developer: Web Developer need to first complete the requirement for the MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Application certification which requires two exams. After completing this, they are required to pass one additional exam to earn this certification.

An upgrade path exists for owners of the Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certification and the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) certification.

Professional Developer: Windows Developer:
Individuals wanting to be certified as a Professional Developer: Windows Developer need to first complete the requirements for the MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications certification which requires two exams. After completing this, they are required to pass one additional exam.

An upgrade path exists for owners of the Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certification and the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) certification.

Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer:
Individuals wanting to be certified as a Professional Developer: Enterprise Applications Developer need to first complete the credentials for MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Web Applications, MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Windows Applications and MCTS: .NET Framework 2.0 Distributed Applications. Once these have been completed, one additional exam is required.

An upgrade path exists for owners of the Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer (MCSD) certification. No upgrade path exists for the Microsoft Certified Application Developer (MCAD) certification.
